From August 21 to 25,2025, the 13th Asia-Pacific University Students Market Research Competition Finals and 2025 Asia-Pacific Statistics and Data Science Academic Conference, organized by Malaysia’s Twintech International University College of Technology, were successfully held in Kuala Lumpur. Co-hosted by Commerce Statistical Society of China and Applied Statistical Society of China, the event attracted nearly 100 faculty members, students, and experts from universities across China, as well as Thailand and Malaysia. They witnessed this significant event in higher education and scientific research collaboration within the Asia-Pacific region.

We are delighted to witness the Cross-Strait University Survey Competition achieve regional elevation, officially transitioning into an “Asia-Pacific” event that serves as a vital platform connecting universities across the region, fostering international exchanges among young students, and broadening global perspectives. This competition not only provides a stage for participants to showcase their data analysis and market research capabilities, but also plays a crucial role in advancing academic collaboration and cultural exchange among universities throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
1.Competition
On August 22, the opening ceremony of the competition was grandly held at Twintech International University College of Technology. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Jian, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, representing and leader of the China delegation. Vice President Prof. Dr. Selvaraj Oyyan Pillay of the university delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the institution, warmly welcoming teachers, students, and guests who had traveled from afar. In his remarks, he emphasized that Twintech University of Science and Technology has always been committed to promoting cross-cultural and cross-regional educational cooperation and actively building an international academic exchange environment. Notable leaders including Professor Jin Yongjin, President of the China Association for Business Statistics and Professor at Renmin University of China; Dato ‘Dr. Noraini Idris, former Assistant Director of the Textbook Department at Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, founder of the National STEM Association, and Lifetime Honorary Professor at Universiti Malaya STEM Centre, attended the meeting and delivered speeches, expressing high regard for this competition and academic exchange activities.

The judging panel of this competition is composed of six experts from mainland China, Taiwan region, Macao region, and the business community, who conduct comprehensive evaluation of the participating teams from multiple dimensions such as academic rigor and practical applicability.

In the final results, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Anhui University and Shanghai University won the first, second and third prizes respectively, and many teams won the first and second grand prizes, showing the excellent data literacy and innovative potential of young students in Asia Pacific.

2.Conference
The conference was chaired by Associate Professor Sun Jianmin from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Distinguished speakers included Professor Wang Honglong, Chairman of the Applied Statistical Society of China and professor at Taipei University, along with Dr. Sireesha Prathi Gadapa and Dr. Mudasar Zafar from Asia Pacific University of Science and Technology (APU). Their keynote presentations —”Application of Web Survey 2.0 in Market Research,” “Empowering Peer Tutoring through AI-Driven Refinery Intervention in Education,” and “Significance and Applications of Mathematical Modeling in Solar Energy Systems” —explored cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence applications in education and mathematical modeling’s role in energy systems. The event witnessed dynamic academic exchanges, demonstrating a distinctive integration of theoretical research and practical implementation.

To foster cross-cultural understanding and multilateral cooperation, Twintech International University College of Technology organized a special campus visit program for universities and enterprises. Participating faculty and students toured Malaysia’s prestigious Universiti Malaya and the national high-tech enterprise MIMOS. The Universiti Malaya, located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is a public research university and the largest and oldest higher education institution in Malaysia. It ranked 58th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings.Mimos is Malaysia’s national Applied Research and Development Centre that provides services in the semiconductor and electronics sectors. The company offers services including failure analysis, wafer and IC testing, wafer fabrication and prototyping, reliability and testing, industrial design, talent development, and technical consultancy.
Through hands-on exchanges, they broadened their global perspectives and stimulated innovative thinking. These activities not only deepened the educational value of the competition but also created a valuable interactive platform for educators and students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
